Joseph Coolidge Shaw is ordained as a Catholic priest.

A former Unitarian, who became an Oxford Movement Catholic, Shaw is ordained by Bishop Fitzpatrick at Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Shaw is related to all of Boston’s first families and studied for the priesthood in Rome where his classmates included the future Cardinal Newman. He had previously been a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Hasty Pudding at Harvard and a graduate of Harvard Law School.
